Sparklers takes place weekly for girls in their final term of Year 6 and starting Year 7. It supports the transition from primary to secondary school by making it a smooth and enjoyable process. Sparklers currently runs on Tuesdays from 4.30-5.45pm.
Junior Spark Club
Junior Spark is a weekly group for girls in years 8-9. Each term, the girls decide what topics they would like to work on or discuss – for example friendships, finding motivation, or challenges at school. Junior Spark currently runs on Thursdays from 4.30-6pm.
Spark Club is a weekly club for girls in year 10 and above and, much like Sparklers and Junior Spark, is a space for girls to develop life and leadership skills. Girls are empowered to understand and value their identity and potential. Spark currently runs on Wednesdays from 5-7pm.
Sparking Futures supports girls and young women who are interested in taking the next step towards their futures. This is a great opportunity for girls to get some hands-on experience for their CV and a taste for working within a field of their interest.
Workshops and opportunities take place on the last Friday of every month, from 5-7pm as well during school holidays.
Time Commitment: up to two days per week/or afternoons to be agreed.
“We are currently seeking a volunteer to support our Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. Evaluating our programmes and monitoring their impact is an integral part of BAYTREE’s work. Knowledge of the local demographic and understanding the needs of our beneficiaries and women in the local community helps us to shape our projects and deliver tailored support programmes.
In this rewarding and interesting opportunity, you will help organise and deliver focus groups, gather and input data for reports, design evaluation forms and conduct research. This role is suitable for someone who wants to make a difference in the community and has an interest in community development and programme development in the voluntary sector or wants to learn more about it. “We are recruiting volunteers to provide mentoring and befriending support to women accessing our adult service. Our Women’s Service is committed to providing a warm, friendly, and supportive space for women from all backgrounds. In this rewarding and mutually beneficial opportunity, you will provide one to one support to women to increase their sense of social inclusion and reduce isolation. Most of the women requiring this support are already attending ESOL classes at BAYTREE. Therefore, the focus of these sessions will be befriending, English conversation practice and providing basic information and support to access services.

“BAYTREE’s social mobility programme aims to empower women to realise and fulfil their potential. Women are helped to access resources, support networks, develop resilience and ultimately improve their lives and that of their families and community.
We are seeking a Cantonese speaking female volunteer for within our coaching programme to assist with translation in sessions with a client and a mobility coach. The sessions take place every 2-4 weeks at mutually agreed times, and last for up to two hours. They are ongoing according to how well the coaching progresses.”
Time Commitment: One session per week for up to an hour over the academic year, sessions start from between 4pm– 6pm weekdays Monday – Thursday remote or in person
“We are recruiting academic mentors to join our dynamic Youth Mentoring programme to provide one to one academic support to girls aged 8 -18 who may be falling behind in their schoolwork due to the disruption to learning over the past 2 years. We are looking for volunteers with good GSCE or degree level education to provide support in a wide range of subjects. Excellent interpersonal skills, patience and enthusiasm towards learning are welcomed qualities for this rewarding opportunity. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
Volunteers will act as role models, supporting academic progress and providing inspiration and encouragement to young people who may be at risk of becoming vulnerable to further disadvantage as the attainment gaps widen. Whilst the focus is supporting academic progress, wellbeing and confidence building is also an important aspect of the role.

“This popular club is running for a second year and we are looking for a volunteer to inspire and engage young readers aged 9-11 to discuss and share the books they read together over the term. This club is all about bringing books alive by facilitating discussions and sharing the enjoyment of reading in a group and sharing opinions. Each session will vary, but the simple format of sharing what the girls have read, doing book-related activities and choosing new books will remain. This role is great for anyone who enjoys working with children and can commit to a weekly session.”

“We are looking for volunteers to help run our very popular cookery and baking club! Teaching children to cook from a young age is a great way for them to learn important life skills whilst having fun. The aim of this club is to inspire and build confidence in cooking, and the importance of healthy eating and nutrition. If you would love the opportunity to teach a small group of girls aged 6-11 how to prepare nutritious snacks and meals from quick and easy recipes each week, with the creative freedom of devising your own recipes, please do apply!
