Rose Project - New at Baytree

The ROSE (ROute to Securing Employment) Project is a group of free courses aimed at mothers who want to go to work or vocational training soon, and have young children. There are several different courses:

  • Entry Level to Level 1 ESOL. The ESOL courses are for mothers who want to go into work or further training in the future but feel it is necessary to improve their English skills first. The courses vary in duration, level and times based on the needs of the group.

  • Literacy. This course is for mothers who speak English well, but need some support with reading, writing and spelling skills while, or before, they look for work or vocational training. Again the courses vary in duration, level and times.

  • PETALS (Employment Skills). Personal enrichment, training and life skills is a higher level course – roughly Level 1 – for mothers who are ready to apply for work or vocational courses, and would like support doing this. PETALS combines practical skills such as touch typing with 'soft' skills like self evaluation and team building. This is for one morning per week for six weeks.

  • Using ICT. This is a three month course, for mothers who can use a computer a little bit, but would like help with word processing and email.

Most of the courses are taught by Baytree Centre Tutors at Children's Centres in London Borough of Lambeth. The Children's Centres provide free creche for young children and prospective students need to register with the Children's Centres in order to get a place. Mothers are able to choose the course that is most suitable or closest to home and can join more than one course at a time.
