Raising a family today can be a very daunting task, particularly in the inner city. Many parents do not have the extended family back-up or the community support that was present in former days or in smaller towns. London has a very large migrant population, with all the difficulties that entails: looking for a job, getting children into schools, adapting to a different culture...
Baytree offers family support in a variety of ways.
- A crèche is available for mothers wishing to access English classes, further education, job skills.
- Parents can avail themselves of a ‘drop-in’ surgery where they can seek advice and help on family matters.
- Mothers can enrol themselves and their daughters on the PEACH programme which offers one-to-one mentoring for the girls, and the Family Enrichment Programme for the mothers.
- The Centre also offers outings and social occasions where mothers can get together in a warm and friendly environment.
- Alternatively mothers can volunteer in some of the activities and so become part of team – as one mother commented: "I consider Baytree to be part of my family."
- We aim to provide activities in which mother and daughter can participate together, strengthening family bonds.
- Periodically, once a term, there is a family event to which all the family and extended family are invited.
